Nissan VK56
The VK engine (formerly known as the ZH) is a V8 piston engine from Nissan. It is an aluminum DOHC 4-valve design with variable valve timing. The timing of the intake valves is continuously fine-tuned to ensure air enters the cylinder at exactly the right moment for optimum combustion. It also features a variable intake system and an optional direct injection fuel system.
The VK is based on Nissan's VQ V6 rather than the VH V8 used in previous Q45/Cima models. Changes include titanium valves and aluminium lifters, which being lighter than equivalent steel items allow the engine to respond more quickly and more quietly. The intake manifold directs air through different paths at different engine speeds to boost low-end torque or unleash high-end horsepower. The 4.5 L engine uses a 93 mm (3.7 in) bore and 82.7 mm (3.26 in) stroke and a 90° bank angle.
